County Election Division Seeks Resident Input on Mail Ballot Primary

Morgan County Clerk and Recorder Connie Ingmire is seeking input from Morgan County residents whether the August 10 Primary Election should be conducted by mail ballot only.

House Bill 1015 gives the Clerk and Recorder authority to conduct a Primary Election as a mail ballot election with a few additional requirements.

Under a mail ballot system, voters would have until 7:00 p.m. on August 10 to return their primary ballot by mail or may deliver the ballot to the Election Office drop off site @ 231 Ensign Street, Fort Morgan.

In a mail ballot election all Democrat and Republican voters in Morgan County would receive their ballot in the mail three weeks prior to the Primary Election, which selects party nominees for the General Election.  The last day to change major political party affiliation is July 12, 2010.  Registered unaffiliated electors may declare a major political party affiliation to vote in the Primary Election.  To receive a mail ballot if you are an unaffiliated voter, your request must be received at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office prior to August 3, 2010.  After that date ballots may picked up in person at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.  Ballots may be returned to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office by mail or in person.  The Election Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday August 7 from 9:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m.

Citizens of Morgan County have enjoyed the convenience of voting by mail.  Nearly 60 percent of the active voters in Morgan County have requested to be permanent mail-in ballot voters.

Residents may submit written comments to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 231 Ensign Street, P.O. Box 1399, Fort Morgan, CO 80701 by February 13, 2010 by 4:00 p.m.  Comments may also be received at 2010morgancountyvotes@co.morgan.co.us.
